Exene Cervenka is an American singer, artist, and poet, known for her work as a singer in the California punk rock band X. Cervenka is of Czech and Irish ancestry. Born in Mokena, Illinois in the Chicago area, Cervenka moved to Tallahassee, Florida with her family, where she lived from age 13 to 20. Cervenka dropped out of high school. After her mother died, she raised her sisters. Cervenka moved to Santa Monica, California, in the summer of 1976.
