He is currently the mens basketball head coach at Texas Tech University- his previous position, from 2007-2013, was as the mens basketball head coach at the University of Minnesota. Smith previously served in the same role at the University of Tulsa, the University of Georgia, and University of Kentucky, where he coached the Wildcats to the 1998 NCAA championship.
